This axis buck is still in velvet however they can be hard-horned at any time of the year. Our best hard-horned axis are usually taken in late May and early June, offering a great off-season hunting opportunity. If you prefer an axis in the velvet then late March and early April are your best bet. These images were taken in late March 2010 and are representative of many fine axis deer at the Texana Ranch.

Axis are also very fine table fare and a preferred selection on any menu.
